Hope & Courage International

Hope & Courage International is a Non-Governmental Organization registered under the Registrar of Societies in Kenya. The organization was founded by a cancer survivor who found hope from a small boy who was also going through cancer treatment and he inspired her to embrace the journey and treatment with a keen focus on Cancer Awareness, Support, Education and Sensitization.

Hope & Courage International (HCI) was founded with a keen focus on creating Cancer Awareness and providing support to kids battling cancer and their families.

Bridges Of Gold ( Teens & 20s)

BRIDGES OF GOLD ( TEENS & 20s) In this program HCI offers several support programs for teens and young adults battling cancer and other life-limiting illnesses that involves addressing emotional and psychosocial needs effectively. Peer Support Groups: Purpose: Provide a safe space for teens and young adults to connect with others who are going through similar experiences. Activities: Facilitate group discussions, sharing sessions, and activities that promote bonding and mutual support. Benefits: Peer support reduces feelings of isolation and provides validation and encouragement. Individual Counseling: Purpose: Offer personalized support to address unique emotional challenges, fears, and anxieties. Approach: Trained counselors can help develop coping strategies, manage stress, and navigate complex emotions. Benefits: Builds resilience and provides a confidential outlet for expressing feelings. Family Counseling and Support: Purpose: Engage families in understanding and supporting the emotional needs of their loved ones. Topics: Communication strategies, coping as a family unit, and addressing caregiver stress. Benefits: Strengthens family bonds and enhances overall support network. Educational Workshops: Topics: Understanding treatment options, managing symptoms, nutrition, and wellness. Purpose: Empowers teens and young adults with knowledge and skills to actively participate in their care. Benefits: Increases confidence, reduces anxiety related to treatment, and fosters a sense of control. Art and Music Therapy: Purpose: Provides creative outlets for self-expression, relaxation, and emotional healing. Benefits: Offers non-verbal ways to process emotions, reduces stress, and enhances overall well-being. Virtual Support Options: Purpose: Extend support beyond physical meetings, catering to those unable to attend in-person. Platforms: Online forums, virtual support groups, and teletherapy sessions. Benefits: Increases accessibility, especially for those in remote locations or with mobility challenges. Celebrating Milestones and Achievements: Purpose: Recognize and celebrate personal victories, no matter how small. Activities: Organize events, certificates, or special outings to mark treatment milestones or achievements. Benefits: Boosts morale, reinforces progress, and fosters a sense of community. Continued Support Post-Treatment: Purpose: Address the transition from treatment to survivorship or end-of-life care sensitively. Services: Bereavement support for families, ongoing counseling for survivors, and resources for transitioning back to daily life. Benefits: Ensures ongoing support during critical phases of recovery or end-of-life stages. Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Purpose: Coordinate care plans with medical teams to ensure holistic support. Communication: Regular updates, joint meetings, and shared goals for patient care. Benefits: Enhances overall treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients. By integrating these components into a comprehensive support program, Hope & Courage International creates a nurturing environment that addresses the emotional, social, and psychological needs of teens and young adults facing cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. Patient Support 

Patient Support  At HCI, we recognize that patients undergoing treatment require both psychosocial support and assistance in accessing treatment. Psychosocial support is necessary because we understand that the cancer journey is both emotionally and mentally draining and needs both psychological and social care to ease it. Additionally, HCI partners with stakeholders to get the beneficiaries into treatment programmes. Kids Connect Forum

Kids Connect Forum Provide safe space to “allow kids to be kids” by engaging them in fun-filled activities and development of artistic skills. Facilitate Fun-filled Activities Provide in-door games such as cross-words, puzzles, scrabbles, chess, toys Provide outdoor games such as trampoline, see-saws, slides, and swings Provide equipment to watch child-friendly movies and programmes Artistic Skills Development Organise drawing and painting sessions Organise music and dance sessions

Grant a Wish

Grant a Wish HCI offers children with cancer and/or other life-limiting illnesses the chance to take a break from the challenging experience by allowing them to have their wishes and dreams come true. Such dreams may include taking a family vacation, attending an event, purchasing a desired item, travelling and adventure or meeting someone special. Whatever the wish, HCI aims to help children with advanced illness and their families enrich the quality of their lives and create meaningful memories.
